HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team secured a third-place finish at the Carey Collegiate Classic on Tuesday after the final round of play at Canebrake Country Club.
No. 23-ranked Lindsey Wilson completed the event with a two-day total 624 (311-313) to secure their third top-three finish of the fall 2017 campaign. The Blue Raiders finished behind only No. 4-ranked and tournament winner Dalton State (Ga.), who posted a 589 (297-292), and second-place finisher and No. 13-ranked William Carey (Miss.), who carded a 596 (298-298). LWC bettered fourth-place Loyola-New Orleans (La.) by four strokes in the final standings of the 10-team tournament.
Tara Rodenhurst led the way for Lindsey Wilson after recording a two-day 152 (77-75). She trimmed two strokes off her opening round 77 to finish at 8-over for the tournament in a tie for eighth place. Rodenhurst has placed in the top-10 in all three events of the fall for the Blue Raiders.
Dacie Bolton made the biggest LWC improvement in the second round, cutting her 7-over in round one down to a 3-over par 75 in round two to finish with a 10-over par 154. Bolton finished in a three-way tie for 12th place.
Shayna Cockrill matched her opening round 7-over par 79 with a duplicate 79 in the final round at the par-72, 5,919-yard course. She finished at 14-over at the event in a tie for 18th place.
After recording the top Blue Raider score during the opening round on Monday, Courtney Vincent struggled on the second day of the tournament. After a 4-over par 76 had her in the top-10 of the standings following day one, the junior carded a 12-over par 84 during the final round. She slid 13 spots in the individual standings, eventually landing in a tie for 23rd place.
Morgan Markwell completed the five-person Blue Raider squad. The freshman cut her opening round 87 down to an 84 on day two to finish in 37th place in the field of 54.
Julie Baker, a member of NCAA Division I Southern Miss' women's golf team, took home medalist honors at the event. Baker, who was competing as an individual at the tournament, shot an impressive 7-under par 65 in the second round to go with her 2-over from round one. She finished at 5-under for the event, edging out Dalton State's Isabel Rijos by two strokes for the win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Oct. 9 for the Thomas Invitational held at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
