Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson football team continued winning ways Saturday evening, opening conference play with a 34-7 win over Cumberland (Tenn.).
The Blue Raiders (4-0, 1-0 MSC Bluegrass Division) scored 27 first-half points to secure the program's 15th straight win, setting a new program record for wins in a row.
Lindsey Wilson posted 310 total yards of offense tonight rushing for 259 yards and passing for 51 yards. Will McDonald went 4 of 9, throwing for 34 yards while Jaylen Boyd rushed the ball 11 times for 165-yards for two touchdowns. Aside from the interception return, the Blue Raiders scored the remaining four touchdowns on the ground with Boyd picking up two on the night, with Kobe Belcher and Ethan Cash picking up the other two rushing touchdowns.
Cashawn Beasley opened the scoring for Lindsey Wilson in the first quarter, intercepting a Phoenix pass from Brandon Edmondson, returning it to the endzone for the first six points of the contest. The touchdown is the first of the season for Beasley.
After the opening touchdown, the scoring momentum began to flow for the Blue Raiders as three rushing touchdowns were scored by Boyd, Cash, and Belcher in the second quarter, pushing the score to 27-0. After the first rushing touchdown from Boyd, Ian Sauter saw his extra-point attempt blocked and recovered by Champ Leddon for the Phoenix outside the endzone. Leddon, who attempted to bring the ball downfield, slipped in the endzone resulting in a one-point safety for the Blue Raiders.
Into the third quarter, Boyd continued his scoring ways, taking home his second rushing touchdown of the game, going 29-yards to cap off a 48-yard drive and make it 34-0 to the home team. The touchdown is the fourth of the season for the running back.
The Phoenix didn't go out without a fight, finding the endzone in the fourth quarter after an 11-yard pass from Edmondson connected with Jaylen Taylor for his first touchdown of the season. It was too little too late as the Blue Raiders secured the 34-7 win.
Lindsey Wilson continues their season with a road trip to Thomas More (Ky.) on October 9. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
