Box Score DAYTON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fought till the bitter end to complete their upset bid over No. 21 Bryan (Tenn.) on Tuesday evening but ultimately fell 16-14 on the road.
Tied at 14 in the bottom half of the ninth inning, Bryan's (10-3) Tyler Scott connected on a 2-0 pitch which he drove over the left-center-field fence for a two-run walk-off win. The Blue Raiders (3-3) scored runs in six different innings on their way to outhitting the Lions 20-17 as both squads managed three errors during the nine-inning contest.
Lindsey Wilson led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the second but seven hits by Bryan and two, two-run home runs led to the Lions capturing their first lead at 9-5. The Blue Raiders scored four in the third inning to tie the game and added another run in the fourth to take back a lead at 10-9.
Following a scoreless fifth inning, Bryan tacked on three in the sixth and two in the seventh as LWC managed one run in the seventh and three in the eighth to sit deadlocked at 14 heading into the ninth inning. Bryan ultimately did enough to win the game 16-14.
Derek Zavala and Austin Rayno each managed four hits on the evening as Lucas Bault and Henry Paulino recorded three. The quartet combined for nine RBI's as Paulino spearheaded the effort with four RBI's.
Jake McDaniel (0-1) picked up the loss on the mound for LWC as Chris Bayne recorded the win after tossing just one scoreless inning for the Lions.
The Blue Raiders return to the field on Friday, Feb. 26, when they take on Georgetown (Ky.) at 2 p.m. CT for their first game of a weekend road series.
