Maskill's walk-off propels Baseball to a 12-9 win over Cumberland

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Tyler Maskill's three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning sent the Lindsey Wilson baseball team to a 12-9 walk-off win over Cumberland (Tenn.) today at Egnew Park.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson takes two of the three games in the weekend series with the Phoenix.

The game looked to be headed to a three-run win for the Blue Raiders (13-14, 8-7 in the Mid-South Conference) in regulation, but the feisty Phoenix scored three times in the top of the ninth to force the extra frame.

Cumberland (12-13, 3-6) threatened in the top of the 10th putting two runners on base. Kyle Collin -- who picked up the win in relief -- struck out Tyler Stokes to end the threat and set up the Maskill heroics. Collin allowed just one hit over two innings of work while striking out two.

Derek Zavala led off the home half of the 10th with a base hit and a stolen base. Following the swipe, Seth Price was intentionally walked to set up a force out or potential double play.

Maskill had neither of those outcomes in mind.

Facing a 1-2 pitch, Maskill blasted his second home run of the season in a no-doubt shot to give the Blue Raiders their fourth win in the last five games. Maskill ended the game 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs.

Cumberland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Blue Raiders.

Trailing, Kelvin Llanos doubled home Maskill for the first Lindsey Wilson run of the game in the second inning. After Cumberland extended the lead to 3-1, Lucas Bault hit a solo home run to open the third and Zavala and Price manufactured a double steal --Zavala's steal coming at home following a throw down to second base -- to tie the game at 3-3. Bault ended the afternoon 3-for-5 with a run and three RBIs, including his second homer of the season.

Once again finding themselves trailing -- this time 4-3 in the sixth -- the Lindsey Wilson offense scored five straight runs to take its first lead of the day.

Llanos provided an RBI single and Bault a two-run single in the sixth to give Lindsey Wilson the 6-4 lead. Maskill and Nico Martinez each drove home a run in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-4. Martinez led the Blue Raiders with four hits, going 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Cumberland battled back scoring five of the next six runs to set up the dramatic finish.

Bault, Maskill, Price, Llano, Martinez, Ty Menrath, and Austin Rayno all recorded multiple hits in the game. Lindsey Wilson finished the day nearly doubling up the Phoenix on hits -- 19 to 10.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 30, as the Blue Raiders host Union (Ky.) at Egnew Park.
