WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson archery team wrapped up the individual portion of USA Archery Regional Championship on Friday afternoon as seven Blue Raiders placed in their respective disciplines.
The Blue Raiders also competed in the team events of the Mid-South Conference championship where they sit in second place following the first day of action.
Austin Taylor highlighted the Lindsey Wilson effort at the regional championship taking first in the men's bowhunter. Taylor took first place in the championship match when he defeated Hasadiah Coleman of Bethel (Tenn.) 145-140. Taylor was the No. 3-seed after qualifying with 695 in the event as Coleman was No. 13 after qualifying with 662. Taylor won four matches in the 17-person bracket on his way to the championship.
Lindsey Wilson managed a strong showing in the men's recurve portion of the event as Christian Blair took second, Gabe Crenshaw finished third and T Sanchez took fourth. Blair – seeded No. 4 – lost in the championship match 6-4 to Pikeville's (Ky.) AJ Clements (No. 6). Blair defeated teammate Sanchez (No. 2) in the semifinals on a 6-2 result.
Sanchez headed to the third-place match after the loss where he took on another teammate in Crenshaw. Crenshaw won the match 7-3 to pick up the bronze medal after falling to eventual champion Clements 7-1 in the semifinals.
Taylor Bell turned in a third-place finish in the men's bowhunter. Bell took down Elliott Cross of Cumberlands (Ky.) 140-140 to win with six targets to five. He lost in his semifinal match to the eventual champion, Kirklin Newsome of Pikeville on a 143-139 loss. Bell entered the competition as the fourth seed.
Olivia Harner turned in a second-place finish during the women's recurve. She fell in the championship match to Miranda Lauria of Cumberlands on a 6-4 score. She picked up her second win of the day in the semifinals over Ana McFarland on a 5-5 (8-6) win.
Britnay McCarthy finished in third place in the women's barebow competition after being seeded fourth. In the bronze medal match, she downed Alexandra Elzy of Cumberlands 6-2. She lost to the eventual champion Whitney Vandiver of Cumberlands on a 6-0 result.
Hunter Current (Men's Barebow), Bell (Men's Bowhunter), Taylor (Men's Compound) were each named to the USA Archery All-Region team for their performances this week. Teams were selected based on their seedings into the individual championship round.
Lindsey Wilson also competed in the team rounds of the MSC Championship where they sit in second place after managing two first place, six-second place and three third-place finishes to rack up 76 total points.
Cumberlands is in first place with 88 points as Pikeville is third with 53.
Sanchez, Crenshaw and Hunter Reading teamed up to take first place in the men's recurve. On the women's side, Gracie Wells, McCarthy and Casey Stickfort finished in first place during the women's barebow after defeating Cumberlands 6-2.
In the mixed barebow, Current and McCarthy took second place after losing in the championship 6-0 as Bell and Courtney Blevins joined forces to take second in the mixed bowhunter. They opened their day with a 153-121 win over Bethel, a 147-145 win over Pikeville before a close 144-142 loss to Cumberlands in the finals.
Taylor and Ashlyn Scriven took third during the mixed compound after dropping their semifinal matchup to eventual winner Union 149-144. The pair then defeated Pikeville 145-144 in the bronze medal match.
Sanchez and Harner advanced to the finals of the mixed recurve after taking down Cumberlands 5-3 in the semifinals. They would take second place after falling to Pikeville 6-0.
Current, Cameron Curran and Jordan Elam took third place during the men's barebow as Lyle Uhrich, Evan Mahanna and Bell also claimed third in the men's bowhunter.
Alexis Abbott, Courtney Blevins and Savy Scott claimed second in the women's bowhunter dropping the championship match to Cumberlands 221-218. They won in the semifinals against Pikeville 213-210.
Ashlyn Scriven, Madison Hart and Natalie Brockman finished in second place of the women's compound as Casie Metcalf, Harner and Savannah Gould took second during the women's recurve.
Lindsey Wilson closes out action at the MSC Championship tomorrow morning with the individual events taking place throughout the day.
