Football Dominates in Home Opener Against Webber International

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team defeated Webber International (Fla.) 58-7 on Thursday night at Blue Raider Stadium. The victory improves the Blue Raider's to 9-3 all-time in season openers.

The Blue Raiders (1-0, 0-0 MSC) finished with 550 yards of total offense, 221 came through the air and 329 on the ground. Webber International (0-1, 0-0 MSC) ended the night with 150 yards of total offense, 70 yards through the air and 80 yards on the ground.

Cameron Dukes led the way for the Blue Raiders as he passed for 134 yards, along with two touchdowns. Dukes also showcased his scrambling ability as he picked up 55 yards on the ground with another score.

On the ground, a trio of Blue Raider running backs in Darius Clark, Jaylen Boyd and Kobe Belcher guided the ground game as they rushed for 76, 69, and 44 yards, respectively. Belcher found the endzone twice while Clark scored a touchdown of his own.

Defensively, the Blue Raiders had three takeaways. Eddie Davis and Cashawn Beasley both recorded an interception and Brandon Fields recovered a fumble.

The Blue Raiders opened the scoring early into the game as Dukes struck Joshua Lewis in stride for a 27-yard touchdown. The Warriors responded quickly as a 27-yard run by Cody Braden set up Webber International deep in Lindsey Wilson territory. On 3rd and 8 Braden found Jacob Moss for an 18-yard touchdown to even up the score, the only touchdown for the Warriors on the night.

Lindsey Wilson took the lead at the end of the first quarter as Belcher scored his first touchdown of the night. The extra point from Ian Sauter was blocked by Jaren Muse and Lindsey Wilson entered the second quarter 13-7.

Momentum began to shift for the Blue Raiders in the second quarter. After a 27-yard run by Boyd, Dukes hit Tanner Wade for his first career reception and a 29-yard touchdown to extend the Blue Raiders lead 20-7. Sauter knocked down a 30-yard field goal to end the half with Lindsey Wilson holding a commanding 30-7 lead.

The Blue Raiders ground game took off in the second half as Clark found the endzone for an eight-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Jbias Dawson followed suit shortly after, scoring a five-yard touchdown of his own to push the lead 44-7 to end the third quarter.

A pair of fourth quarter touchdowns from Belcher and Cash put the finishing stamps on a fantastic home opener for the Blue Raiders as they come away with a 58-7 win.

The Blue Raiders return home to face No. 4-ranked Keiser (Fla.) on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
