Baseball takes two against No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan; Claim weekend series 3-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team closed out their four-game series with No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday at Egnew Park with a pair of close one-run wins. The Blue Raiders claimed the series win 3-1 after splitting yesterday's contests.

Lindsey Wilson took the first game of the day on an 8-7 win after surviving a seventh-inning surge by the Wildcats before pulling off a late come from behind 7-6 win in the second game.

Game 1: LWC 8, IWU 7

After 3-1/2 scoreless innings Lindsey Wilson scored the first runs of the game in the fourth, pushing home three runs. Austin Rayno single to score Koby Wall as Lucas Bault later doubles to push home two more runs. The Blue Raiders added another run in the fifth inning when a Wall blooper to the outfield was dropped by the IWU centerfielder allowing Michael Sizemore to score.

Lindsey Wilson leading 4-0, Indiana Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning off a two-run home run.

The Blue Raiders scored four more runs in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 8-2. Sizemore hit a two-RBI single to score both Jonathan Gallagher and Rayno. Moments later, Nico Martinez produced a two-RBI single of his own to score Gabe Board and Sizemore.

Indiana Wesleyan was able to produce five runs on five hits in the final inning but ultimately fell short of completing the comeback.

Pedro Ramirez picked up his first career win going six innings, recording six strikeouts across 20 batters while allowing just two hits. Michael Frye came on in relief to pick up the save and tallied two strikeouts.

Game 2: LWC 7, IWU 6

Game two was a back and forth affair as Lindsey Wilson and Indiana Wesleyan traded leads five times before the Blue Raiders ultimately came out on top.

After allowing three runs in the opening inning, the Blue Raiders managed three of their own in the second. Sizemore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home LWC's first run of the game. Board then double to score Thorne Gray and Cody Fallon, leveling the score at three.

Indiana Wesleyan regained the lead in the fourth but it was short-lived. The Blue Raiders pushed home two in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Stayton single that drove home two runs. Board and Sizemore would cross home plate on the play. The two-run inning gave the Blue Raiders their first lead of the game at 5-4.

The Wildcats scored their final two runs of the contest in the fifth inning thanks to two hits and one Lindsey Wilson error. The Blue Raiders managed another two-run inning in the sixth, which proved to be the decisive runs. Wall managed a two-RBI double that pushed home Stayton and Board.

Edwin Quedeza pitched a no-decision, going four innings while retiring six batters and allowing four runs on six hits. Cade Duncan Came on in the fifth inning, to earn the win as he retired four IWU batters.

The Blue Raiders return to the field on Wednesday when they welcome Union (Ky.) to Egnew Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM CT in a nine-inning contest.
