Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team rolled to the ninth win of the season at Egnew Park with an 11-2 result against Pikeville (Ky.) to open Mid-South Conference play.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after two innings over the Bears and never looked back. Lindsey Wilson (10-3, 1-0 MSC) was effective at the plate and in the field as they recorded 11 hits to the Bears (7-10, 0-1 MSC) four.
Cohen Achen pitched a gem on the mound allowing just two hits scattered across his six-innings of work. He racked up seven strikeouts across his 22 batters faced. Kyle Collin came on in relief in the seventh inning as he retired two while allowing two hits.
Gabe Board led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. Seven Blue Raiders produced hits as Lucas Bault produced four RBIs and Chance Stayton managed three.
Lindsey Wilson blew the doors wide open in the first inning pushing home five runs while batting through the order. Michael Sizemore singled before Board double to put runners in scoring position. Sizemore scored the first run of the game when Nico Martinez reached on an error by shortstop Ryan Sartin.
Koby Wall walked to load the bases as a wild pitch forced home Board for the game's second run. A Stayton RBI single during the next at-bat scored another run before Bault produced a two-RBI single for the innings final runs.
With two outs in the second inning, Lindsey Wilson was able to push two more runs home. Martinez got things started with a single while Wall reached on a walk. Another Pikeville wild pitch push both runners into scoring position as Stayton produced his second and third RBI of the afternoon with his second single.
The Blue Raiders tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning thanks in part to another wild pitch, this one allowing two Blue Raiders to cross home. Board singled while Martinez walked before the miscue by Pikevilles pitcher and catchers allowed them both to score.
Lindsey Wilson pushed two more runs home in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Bault managed a two-RBI double with two outs in the inning. Board doubled to open the inning while Stayton later walked. Bault was caught stretching at third on the play to end the inning.
Pikeville broke through in the seventh with two runs to keep the game alive. The Bears doubled their hit total in the inning with two.
The runs from the Bears were the final of the contest as the Blue Raiders claimed the first game 11-2.
Lindsey Wilson closes out their weekend series with Pikeville with tomorrow's doubleheader at Egnew Park beginning at Noon CT.
