COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team (11-4, 2-1 MSC) wrapped up its first conference series of the season on Sunday defeating Pikeville (Ky.) in game two of the series 10-5 before dropping game three 9-6 despite producing 18 hits in the game. The Blue Raiders won the series 2-1 after today's doubleheader.

Lindsey Wilson 10, Pikeville 5

The Blue Raiders used an offensive explosion in the bottom of the second and fifth innings to tack on a combined seven runs for a 10-5 victory on the afternoon.

Gabe Board led the way after producing three RBIs on three hits. Chance Stayton, Henry Paulino, and Austin Rayno each scored a pair of runs in the game while Edwin Quedeza earned the start from the bump, producing six innings of work where he corralled eight strikeouts and four walks while allowing only three hits. As a team, the Blue Raiders produced 14 total hits in the game with two errors.

The Blue Raiders opened the scoring with an RBI single from Stayton in the bottom half of the first inning that scored Martinez's only run of the day.

Lindsey Wilson continued to tack on the runs after an RBI double from Michael Sizemore made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second. The following RBI double from Board pushed the lead to 4-0 after he scored Sam Gage from third.

Rayno grounded out in the third, but it was enough to score Stayton from the third-base bag to grow the lead to 5-0. The Bears finally got on the board in the fourth after scoring off a balk.

Three straight runs in the fifth made it 9-1 after Stayton scored on a wild pitch, Cody Fallon got home off a single from Rayno and Paulino crossed center plate off a single from Board. The Blue Raiders added an additional run in the sixth when Koby Wall took advantage of a wild pitch.

Pikeville's best inning came in the final inning as they put up four runs after loading the bases, putting relief pitcher Michael Frye in a tough situation. Frye worked his way out of the jam and the Blue Raiders survived to take game two 10-5.

Lindsey Wilson 6, Pikeville 9

The second game of the day was a tough one for the Blue Raiders as a rotated squad found trouble with getting outs throughout the game, allowing the Bears to produce three runs in the first, third and fifth innings.

Only five Blue Raiders got on the board after Board, Kyle Collin, Fallon, Jonathan Gallagher, and Martinez all scored in the loss.

Pitching was a struggle for the Blue Raiders as the side rotated through three pitchers in the game with Pedro Ramierez getting the nod at the mound to start things off. It was not his day however as he only worked through 2 1/2 innings after giving up eight hits, one being a home run and six runs in his time on the mound.

Head coach Ethan Utley relied on Josh Barnett and Cade Duncan in relief. Barnett worked through two innings earning three strikeouts but giving up four hits and three runs before he was replaced by Duncan who closed out the game with two strikeouts only giving up one walk.

The Bears started things off with a 3-0 run in the first inning before the Blue Raiders got a run back after Board scored on a wild pitch making it 3-1. The Bears picked up three more runs in the third before the Blue Raiders responded with three straight RBI doubles in the fourth to make it 6-4.

The Bears were not eager on allowing a Blue Raider comeback as they put up another three runs in the fifth to make it 9-4. Lindsey Wilson were doing anything to try and find a way back into the game and it paid off in the seventh inning after a double from Collin scored the run of Gallagher and a single from Jadon Cockerel scored the run of Collin making it 9-6. Despite their best efforts, the Blue Raiders ran out of opportunities as the Bears wrapped up the remaining innings and broke the win streak of the Blue Raiders in the process.

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team will return to Egnew Park on Wednesday, March 2 when they face No. 7 ranked IU Southeast at 12 p.m. CT.
