Baseball Drops Single Game Against Cumberlands

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson baseball fell 8-2 at Egnew Park to No. 17 Cumberlands in a single non-conference matchup. The Blue Raiders gave up five runs over the opening two innings plaguing their efforts early.

Lindsey Wilson recorded 10 hits for the contest while the Patriots produced just two more hits with 12. Cumberlands racked up five hits in their big first inning which proved to be too much to overcome.

Gabe Board, Nico Martinez, Koby Wall, and Austin Rayno each recorded two hits as Board and Martinez managed the RBIs. Bailey Turner was the Blue Raiders most effective pitcher, going 4-1/3 innings of relief and striking out three.

Cumberlands opened the game with four runs on four hits in the first inning. The Blue Raiders put two runners in scoring position at second and third with one out, but we were unable to push any runs home. The Patriots pushed their lead to five with another run in the second.

After five scoreless innings for LWC, the Blue Raiders finally broke through in the fifth inning. Rayno reached on a fielder's choice as Michael Sizemore reached on a walk to put runners at first and second. Board then managed an RBI single to push home Rayno for their first run of the contest.

Cumberlands pushed home two more runs in the sixth and another in the eighth to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Martinez hit a solo home run in the bottom of eight, his third of the season, for the Blue Raiders final run of the contest.

Pedro Ramirez (1-3) recorded the loss as Cumberlands Garrett DeClue (1-0) recorded the win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the field on Thursday when they open their weekend series against Georgetown (Ky.) with a single contest at 3 pm CT. The Blue Raiders finish off the series on Sunday when they play a doubleheader. The schedule change is due to inclement weather subject to hit the Georgetown area on Friday.
