Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The bats were hot on a chilly afternoon in Egnew Park as the Lindsey Wilson baseball team dominated Tennessee Southern 26-5 on Friday.
Lindsey Wilson allowed only five runs and nine hits in the game from the Firehawks as Cohen Achen pitched six innings racking up nine strikeouts while giving up just six hits. Michael Frye pitched the final inning and added one strikeout of his own.
To say the Blue Raiders were efficient at the plate this afternoon is an understatement. Eleven Blue Raiders managed hits in the game as LWC racked up a season-high 23 across seven innings including 21 RBIs.
Despite no runs being scored in the first inning, once Lindsey Wilson opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, they never looked back. The Blue raiders pushed home 10 runs on five hits and a Firehawk error to take the lead for good. Henry Paulino, Lucas Bault, Koby Wall, and Gabe Board all picked up hits in the inning. Paulino managed two RBIs in the inning as seven Blue Raiders each pushed home at least one run.
Lindsey Wilson tacked on three more runs in the third inning after Board led off the inning with a triple. Chance Stayton delivered a double on the following at-bat to score Board as Nico Martinez kept the hits coming with a single to put him on base. Stayton made it home after a wild pitch with Bault bringing Martinez home with an RBI single later in the inning.
The Blue Raiders, who were already up 13-0 on the Firehawks, didn't hold back in the fourth as they added another six runs in the inning. Board got the scoring started after hitting a three-RBI home run, his fourth of the season, to make it 16-0. Jordan Blick grounded out to bring Stayton home from third before Paulino hit his fifth home run of the year, a two-RBI shot to make it 19-0.
In the fifth inning, Thorne Gray singled as Board was walked. With two runners on, Colton Harrison came on to pinch-hit and notched a single to load the bases. Kyle Collin took to the plate and delivered an RBI single to push the lead to 20-0. Jonathan Gallagher hit a sacrifice fly to score Board before Paulino added another RBI single. Bault reached first on a Firehawk error on the following at-bat with Collin coming home as he took advantage of the error.
The Blue Raiders' hopes of keeping the Firehawks off the board fell apart in the top of the sixth after Michael Wurtz homered to make it 23-2. It wasn't enough to deter the Blue Raiders from scoring though as Harrison, with runners on, earned his first RBI single of the season to score Andres Duran. Collin reached on another error from the Firehawks which allowed Board to score before another RBI single from Gallagher made it 26-2.
The Firehawks added another three runs in the top of the seventh, but it was too late for the comeback as the Blue Raider run-ruled the visitors and jumped back into a win streak.
Lindsey Wilson returns to Egnew Park tomorrow as they close out the series with the Firehawks in doubleheader action beginning at Noon CT.
