Baseball splits Doubleheader; Claim Explosive Offensive Series 2-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team picked up their second win of the series this afternoon against UT Southern to claim the series but split the doubleheader. The Blue Raiders claimed game one 18-10 before falling in game two 20-8.

For the three-game Mid-South Conference series, Lindsey Wilson outscored their counterparts 52-35 as the teams combined to score a staggering 87 runs across just 21 innings of play. Lindsey Wilson also held a 51-37 advantage in hits.

Henry Paulino led the way for LWC on the weekend with a .750 batting average and nine hits. He managed two doubles, one home run, and 10 RBIs. Austin Rayno held the same average, going 6-of-8 at the plate while Gabe Board was 8-of-13 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, and nine RBIs.

Cohen Achen and Josh Barnett each collected the wins on the mound for the Blue Raiders.

GAME 1: LWC 18, UTS 10

Lindsey Wilson made use of a huge 11 run sixth inning to pull off a come-from-behind win in the scheduled seven-inning contest. The win claimed the MSC three-game series win as the Blue Raiders claimed yesterday's first game of the series.

Board and Paulino racked up four hits in the game as the pair each managed two hits in the sixth inning alone. Paulino drove in a game-high five runs while Board pushed in four. Lindsey Wilson finished with 18 hits for the game while limiting Tennessee Southern to just seven.

UT Southern did most of their damage in the first inning, pushing homes six runs on just three hits, four walks one Lindsey Wilson error. The Blue Raiders managed three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, before adding two in the second and two in the third to level the score at 7-7 after three innings. The Firehawks added a run in the second inning.

The Firehawks took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning, a mark that held until they added another run in the sixth inning, ultimately taking a 10-7 lead.

Lindsey Wilson exploded in the bottom half of the sixth inning for 11 runs. 15 batters went to the plate in the inning as LWC nearly batted through the order twice. Lindsey Wilson racked up seven hits as Board, Paulino, and Rayno all singled and Board, Chance Stayton, Koby Wall and Paulino added doubles. Board and Paulino finished with two hits in the inning across their two plate appearances.

Barnett came on in relief to pitch 1-2/3 innings to pick up the win. He managed three strikeouts across seven batters faced. Kyle Collin also pitched in the game, going 3-2/3 innings with six strikeouts across 13 batters.

GAME 2: LWC 8, UTS 20

Lindsey Wilson never led in game two as Tennessee Southern pushed five runs home in the first inning on six hits. The Blue Raiders bounced back with four runs in the second inning to trim their deficit to just one.

The Firehawks exploded for two runs in the third and 11 in the fourth to take a commanding 18-4 lead.

The Blue Raiders produced their second four-run inning in the fourth but failed to score again as they fell 20-8 in seven innings.

Rayno led the way for Lindsey Wilson with three hits as he was perfect at the plate. Andres Duran managed two hits but the Blue Raiders were outhit 21-10 for the game.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Wednesday when they step out of conference play to take on Brescia (Ky.) in Owensboro, Kentucky. First pitch is scheduled for Noon CT.
