Baseball opens weekend series with 10-5 win over Bethel

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team opened their weekend series against Bethel (Tenn.) with a 10-5 win at Egnew Park. The win moves the Blue Raiders to 21-13 on the season and 9-7 in the Mid-South Conference.

Cohen Achen (6-2) recorded the win, pitching seven innings allowing 10 hits and just four runs while sitting down six Wildcats. Kyle Collin picked up his first save of the season pitching the final three innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out one.

Lindsey Wilson outhit Bethel 16-14 as both sides coughed up two errors. Gabe Board and Chance Stayton each recorded four hits in their five plate appearances. The pair managed one double as Stayton added his third home run of the season. Six Blue Raiders recorded hits for the afternoon.

Bethel jumped out to the early lead with one run in the first inning on two hits and a Lindsey Wilson error. They added their second run of the game on a solo home run in the second.

Lindsey Wilson quickly regained the lead in the game when they pushed home three runs in the first inning thanks to a three-run blast from Change Stayton. Gabe Board and Nico Martinez produced singles in the inning.

Following two scoreless innings, LWC broke the game wide open in the fourth with five runs, doing all their damage with two outs.

Stayton pushed home the inning's first run – his fourth RBI of the afternoon – with a single to center field that scored Board. Lucas Bault then singled up the middle to push home Martinez. An error then pushed home two more runs as Stayton and Cody Fallon who was pinch-running for Bault scored. Koby Wall drive in the final run of the inning with a triple that landed in the right-field corner and scored Henry Paulino.

The Wildcats pushed on, scoring two runs of their own in the fifth inning. Bethel made use of three singles to push their runs home, trimming the LWC lead to four at 8-4.

The Blue Raiders extended their lead back to six runs in the seventh inning. Following singles by Wall and Michael Sizemore and a fielder's choice from Austin Rayno, Board smashed a two-RBI double into left-center field.

Bethel added one run in the eighth inning, the final run of the game as LWC took the first game of the three-game series on a 10-5 win.

Lindsey Wilson and Bethel close out the series tomorrow at Noon CT with a doubleheader.
