Baseball Falls on Senior Day to Campbellsville

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Wednesday evening at Egnew Park on senior Day. Lindsey Wilson trailed by one run after eight complete as the game was called due to inclement weather headed towards the Columbia area.

The Blue Raiders managed two one-run leads in the game at 1-0 after the first and again led by a run after a huge six-run fifth inning at 7-6. The Tigers managed to level the score in the sixth before another run in the eighth proved to be the difference-maker.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead over their rivals with a run in the first inning. Michael Sizemore opened the inning with a walk before advancing into scoring position on a Gabe Board fielder's choice. Jordan Blick rocketed a single up the middle to drive in Sizemore for the early lead.

Campbellsville used a big four-run third inning and a two-run fifth inning to take the lead. The Tigers spread seven hits across the innings to take a 6-1 advantage.

Lindsey Wilson battled their way back into the lead in the fifth inning, pushing home six runs on three hits and one Tiger error. Following a leadoff out, Lindsey Wilson managed to load the bases twice.

Austin Rayno scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch as the bases were loaded after he reached base on a single before the Tigers put two runners on base with a walk and a hit by pitch.

Nico Martinez smashed his first triple of the season to drive in two more runs. Two more walks would once again load the bases. Koby Wall hit a dribbler towards first base and would reach on a fielder's choice. An errant through by the Tiger's first baseman gave time for Martinez to score from third.

Chance Stayton drove in the innings' final two runs with a single through the left side that scored pinch runners, Cody Fallon and Henry Escobar.

The lead was short-lived as Campbellsville responded with a run in the sixth inning to level the score another run in the eighth to pull out the shortened game win.

Lindsey Wilson was outhit in the contest 11-5 as five different Blue Raiders recorded a hit. Martinez and Stayton each produced two RBIs.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the field on Friday-Saturday when they return to Mid-South Conference play on the road against Cumberland (Tenn.). The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT on Friday followed by a doubleheader which begins at Noon CT on Saturday.
