Baseball Struggles in two losses to Bethel

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped both games of their doubleheader on Saturday to drop the weekend Mid-South Conference series with Bethel (Tenn.) 2-1.

Lindsey Wilson fell in game 1 8-2 before suffering a similar result at 8-3 in game two. Bethel outhit the Blue Raiders 22-11 on the day.

GAME 1: LWC 2, BU 8

Lindsey Wilson scored just two runs, all coming in the fifth inning, to suffer a six-run loss to Bethel. The Wildcats outhit the Blue Raiders 12-6 as four Lindsey Wilson errors assisted Bethel in their winning effort.

Michael Sizemore led the way with two hits as Kyle Collin pushed home the Blue Raiders only runs of the afternoon with a two-RBI single. Lindsey Wilson managed three of their hits in the inning.

Bethel jumped out to a 7-0 lead after five innings, scoring runs in four innings, before tacking on their final run of the afternoon in the sixth.

Bailey Turner (1-1) recorded the loss after allowing six hits and allowing three walks. Marco Santa (5-2) pitched a complete game and struck out six.

GAME 2: LWC 3, BU 8

Following three scoreless innings to open the contest the Blue Raiders broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Koby Wall singled with one out in the inning before Chance Stayton reached with the help of a Wildcat error and Lucas Bault walked to load the bases.

Henry Paulino then smashed a two-RBI double down the left-field line that reached the wall. The play scored Wall and Stayton as pinch-runner Cody Fallon was thrown out attempting to score from first base.

Bethel quickly answered in the fifth inning, pushing home three runs on three hits to take a one-run lead. The Wildcats pushed home another run in the sixth inning to double their lead.

The Wildcats extended their lead to six runs after scoring two in the seventh and two in the eighth. Lindsey Wilson added a run of their own in the eighth – loading the bases -- but couldn't push more runs home to complete their comeback bid after going down in order in the ninth.

Josh Barnett (2-2) recorded the loss pitching five innings, allowing six hits and four runs. He added two strikeouts. Aaron Rodriguez (1-2) picked up the win after 7-1/3 innings of work.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the field Tuesday when they hit the road for a doubleheader against Oakland City (Ind.). The first pitch is scheduled for noon CT.
