Explosive Start Propels Baseball Over Ranked Grenadiers

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team shocked the No. 19-ranked Grenadiers after a 10-run first inning propelled the Blue Raiders over the hosts in a 13-8 win.

The Blue Raider bats were on fire to start the game as the club produced 10 runs on seven hits in the top of the opening inning. The team went on finish the game with 18 hits while the Grenadiers were held to 11 hits in their losing effort.

Edwin Quedeza got the start on the bump for LWC, going six innings while earning one strikeout through 23 batters faced. Michael Frye, Bailey Turner, and Nick Backstrom all came on in relief in the victory.

After the explosive opening from the Blue Raiders, the Grenadiers got their first run of the game after a sacrifice fly in the second.

Both teams went on to add two runs in the third before Cody Fallon added another in the fifth for a 13-3 lead.

The Grenadiers did their best to make it a game after adding two more runs in the sixth and three in the eighth, but Lindsey Wilson managed to shut down the hosts in the ninth to hang on for the 13-8 victory.

Koby Wall led the team with a team-high three RBIs in today's victory while Chance Stayton had a team-high four hits. In total, nine different Blue Raiders had a hit in today's game while eight had at least one RBI.

Lindsey Wilson continues their road trip tomorrow when they travel to rival Campbellsville (Ky.) in a single nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
