Box Score MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The No. 8-seed Lindsey Wilson baseball team opened Mid-South Conference Tournament Opening Round play this evening with an 11-7 extra-innings win against No. 5-seed Bethel (Tenn.). The Blue Raiders take game one in the series and will continue with games two and three if necessary tomorrow to determine who moves onto the final site in Bowling Green, Ky.
A three RBI home run from Jordan Blick in the seventh inning gave the Blue Raiders hope as the side trailed 7-3 in the sixth inning.
Cohen Achen got the start on the bump for LWC, going 3 1/3 innings while earning two strikeouts while giving up six hits. Cade Duncan and Kyle Collin both came on in relief in the win.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the bottom of the opening inning before Thorne Gray tied matters up in the top of the second after coming home off a fielder's choice.
After a scoreless second inning, the Wildcats made up for it in the third adding three more runs off two errors from the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson got the same opportunity in the top of the fourth and converted on the error to cut the Bethel lead to 4-2.
The Wildcats kept the hits coming in the fifth after adding an RBI single and double in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-2 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Blue Raiders got back on the board in the sixth after a sacrifice fly from Michael Sizemore allowed Rayno to score. Despite the efforts to continue to close the gap, the lack of concentration and errors became a constant issue for Lindsey Wilson as the Wildcats scored another run on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth.
With the game slipping away from the Blue Raiders, Blick added a shot of hope as his three-RBI home run in the top of the seventh cut the Wildcat lead before Sizemore added an RBI single to tie the game at seven heading into the eighth inning.
After a scoreless final two innings, the game had to be determined by extra innings.
Two more scoreless innings passed before the Blue Raiders finally got the winning breakthrough as an RBI single from Martinez added a run with the bases loaded. Bethel then proceeded to walk a run home after Blick was hit by a pitch before Lucas Bault made it home on a fielder's choice. Lastly, to put the game to bed, Martinez made it home after an error.
Both Martinez and Sizemore led the team with three hits apiece in the win while Blick had four RBIs. In summary, seven different Blue Raiders had hits in the victory while six different individuals had at least one RBI.
Lindsey Wilson will play game two of the opening round series tomorrow at noon CT and game three at 3 p.m. CT if necessary.
