Box Score 2 MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The No. 8-seed Lindsey Wilson baseball team completed Mid-South Conference Tournament Opening Round play this afternoon with an 11-12 extra-innings loss and a 9-14 loss against No. 5-seed Bethel (Tenn.). The Wildcats will now move onto the final site in Bowling Green, Ky.
GAME 1: LWC 11, BU 12
Lindsey Wilson started the game well and even built an 8-3 lead in the seventh before the Wildcats answered back to push the game to extras where they won 12-11.
Chance Stayton led the way with three hits as the Blue Raiders put up 14 on the Wildcats in game two while Nico Martinez had an outstanding five RBIs in the loss.
Edwin Quedeza got the start from the mound working through 7 1/3 innings earning four strikeouts while giving up seven hits and two walks. Both Nick Backstrom and Jake McDaniel came on in relief in the loss.
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings, scoring runs in four innings before Bethel added three in the bottom of the sixth.
A three RBI home run from Martinez in the top of the seventh gave the Blue Raiders a substantial lead at 8-3 before surrendering five runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Blue Raiders couldn't put the series away from the mound.
For the second consecutive game of the series, the match had to be determined in extra innings. Both teams held each other scoreless through the first two innings before Martinez added three runs by himself in the twelfth after he hit a two-RBI single and made it home off an error at first base.
With the Blue Raiders up 11-8 in the bottom of the twelfth, McDaniel, who was on in relief, looked to get his team the victory. It wasn't his day however as the Wildcats stormed back with a solo home run and scored three runs from the plate with the bases loaded.
GAME 2: LWC 9, BU 14
The Blue Raiders looked to get back on track in game three and after a scoreless first inning, Lindsey Wilson took the first lead of the day after a sacrifice fly from Kyle Collin brought Cody Fallon home for the 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats were quick to respond in the bottom of the inning as they took a 3-1 lead after a solo home run, an RBI single, and a fielder's choice.
Lucas Bault hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-RBI shot, to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the third before back-to-back home runs for the Wildcats in the bottom of the inning put the hosts back on top at 6-3.
The Blue Raiders made a comeback in the top of the fourth, as both teams have all series after Chance Stayton lined up a three-RBI home run to tie the game at 6-6.
Bethel walked two runs in to retake a two-run lead in the bottom of the inning before Bault decided to line up his second home run of the game in the top of the fifth hitting another two-RBI shot to tie the game at 8-8.
The scoring exploded in the bottom of the fifth for the hosts as they put together six runs to take a 14-8 lead.
Gabe Board added another run in the top of the eighth after his ground out scored Martinez to cut the lead to 9-14 but it was the final scoring action of the series as the Wildcats were able to get the three outs in the ninth and advance to the final site.
Josh Barnett started on the mound in game three throwing for two innings as the Blue Raiders rotated through six pitchers on the evening. Brandon Watts, who entered in the sixth led the pitching crew with six strikeouts in the game. The Blue Raiders put up 14 hits in the loss as Stayton and Henry Paulino each led the team with three while Bault had four RBIs.
Lindsey Wilson concludes the 2022 season with a 24-24 overall record going 10-14 in conference play this year.
