BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team finished regulation in a tie for first place with Cumberland (Tenn.) but eventually fell to second with a loss in the playoff. Individually, Zofia Wojcik, Hannah Sumner, Katie Biddlecombe, and Malene Clausen cracked the top-10.
The event was held at Bowling Green Country Club, a par-72, 5,800-yard design.
Lindsey Wilson managed a 915 (312-296-307) to tie with the Phoenix who fired a similar 915 (309-301-305). In the playoff, the Blue Raiders combined to play the 18th hole to a one-under mark while Cumberland played slightly better, recording a two-under score across their five players. Sumner managed the Lindsey Wilson birdie in the playoff as LWC came up just short of the conference title.
Upon the completion of the event, Clausen was named the MSC Women's Golfer of the Year as Chris Butler was tabbed the conference's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Wojcik posted the highest finish for LWC, managing a 227 (75-74-78) across three-round to finish alone in fourth place. She was just six strokes off the lead as her fourth-place finish is her best of the season.
She managed the second-best scoring average on par-5s and par-4s at 4.83 and 4.23 strokes, respectively. She racked up 29 pars and the second most birdies in the field of 52 with eight.
Sumner climbed the leaderboard three spots during the final round to card a 228 (81-73-74). The result is also the highest finish in her career. The sophomore managed the second most birdies in the field with eight while adding a 4.92 scoring average on par-5s, the third-best in the field.
Biddlecombe and Clausen finished in a tie for ninth place. Biddlecombe posted a 233 (81-75-77) as Clausen managed a mark of 233 (78-74-81). Megan Mann rounds out the Blue Raiders scoring in 13th with a 235 (78-79-78).
Emma Hermansson of Cumberland (Tenn.) won the individual title with a three-over-par mark of 219 (72-73-74).
Lindsey Wilson now waits to hear if they earn an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship Tournament on May 24-27 at Lincoln Park West in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
