Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team picked up a 45-2 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.) Saturday at Parnell Family Stadium on Senior Day.
The Blue Raiders (7-2, 4-1 Mid-South Conference) outgained the Phoenix (4-5, 1-4 MSC) 393 to 187. Ethan Cash completed 19 of his 28 passes throwing for 263 yards and four touchdowns. Jbias Dawson carried the ball 12 time for 117 yards and a touchdown while Quantae Hicks caught three passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.
The Blue Raiders scored one touchdown on defense and one on special teams. Lindsey Wilson limited Cumberland to 84 yards passing and 103 yards rushing. The Blue Raiders forced four turnovers with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Peyton Doles led the way with 11 tackles and three tackles for loss. Deuce Morton II also recorded double-digit tackles with 10.
Following a Cumberland punt that was downed at the Blue Raider 44-yard line, Dawson took a pitch 56 yards to give Lindsey Wilson a 6-0 lead with 7:59 to play in the first quarter. Cash threw his first touchdown of the day to Hicks for a 12-yard touchdown increasing the Blue Raider lead to 12-0 in the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, the Blue Raiders were stopped on a fourth and goal on the Phoenix three-yard line. On the very next play, Chevis Elliot made a great read on a Luke Holloway pass making a diving interception falling into the endzone to give LWC a 19-0 lead with 10:33 to play in the half. The Blue Raiders looked to add to their lead near the end of the half but the 44-yard field goal attempt was blocked. Lindsey Wilson headed into the locker room with a 19-0 lead.
On the opening kickoff of the second half, Lindsey Wilson forced a fumble on the return and Elliot ran it back 15 yards for the touchdown. The Phoenix's only points of the game came on an intentional grounding in the endzone by the Blue Raiders.
Adriene Bailey recorded an interception in the endzone to halt a Cumberland drive that saw them get to the Blue Raider 11. Lindsey Wilson took advantage of the turnover putting together a six-play 80-yard drive capped off by a 46-yard touchdown pass from Cash to Hicks to make it 32-2 with 42 seconds left in the third quarter.
On the first play after a blocked punt, Cash found Davontaye Saunders for a three-yard touchdown. Cash threw his fourth touchdown late in the fourth quarter to Seth Phillips for four yards giving the Blue Raiders the 45-2 advantage.
Lindsey Wilson closes out its regular season at 1 p.m. CT on Nov. 11 when they travel to McKenzie, Tennessee to take on No. 9 Bethel (Tenn.).
