PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Blue Raider women's basketball team played in its first true road game in three weeks on Saturday afternoon at Pikeville (Ky.), falling to the homestanding Bears 82-60 inside Appalachian Wireless Arena.
After going into the halftime break leading by six, the hosts locked in and knocked down nine of their game total 14 three-pointers across the final 20 minutes to help pull away. An 18-8 run late in the third quarter included five of those downtown hits, and Lindsey Wilson was unable to climb back within single digits the rest of the way.
For the fourth time this season,
Lucy Patterson paced the visitor's offense with 16 points on a 7-of-11 effort from the floor. The junior tacked on eight of her points in the final frame where she shot 4-for-4. She also added nine rebounds for a near double-double.
Jarie Thomas and
Jordyn Stephens chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the Blue Raiders finished the day shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 9-for-10 on free throws.
Lindsey Wilson led 6-3 two minutes into the first quarter, but a 14-4 Pikeville run over the next five minutes created separation for the Bears to take a 19-14 after one.
The Blue Raiders never let the deficit grow larger than seven points in the second quarter, and a three-pointer from
Amelia Hodges with 3:55 on the clock put them in striking distance down 28-27. Pikeville, however, ended the first half on a 7-2 swing to prevent it's opposition from taking another lead for the remainder of the contest.
Lindsey Wilson faces a short turnaround when it returns home at 5:30 p.m. CST on Monday, December 18 to host Campbellsville-Harrodsburg.
