Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against No. 17 Georgetown; Wins Series 2-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. -The Lindsey Wilson baseball team swept a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against No. 17 Georgetown (Ky.) Saturday at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders (12-8, 4-4 MSC) took game one 5-4 and completed the sweep with a 9-5 victory in game two. Jordan Blick went 5-for-8 in the two games with six RBIs and one home run. Sam Gage drove in three runs in the second game while Austin Rayno drove in a pair in game two.

Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 5 No. 17 Georgetown 4 (7 Innings)

The Tigers (14-4, 4-2 MSC) struck first in the second inning. Two walks and single loaded the bases with nobody out when Joey Lapolla reached on a fielder's choice as a run came across. Joshua Duarte gave Georgetown a 2-0 lead in the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Back-to-back singles in the bottom of the third put runners on first and second with nobody out. Following a sacrifice bunt, Blick tied the game with a two-RBI single to right field. The Blue Raiders would take the lead 3-2 in the fourth on a leadoff home run from Henry Paulino.

Jonathan Phipps worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded with two outs Phipps recorded a strikeout to end the Tigers threat. Georgetown added a pair of runs in the sixth with two outs to lead 4-3.

After a leadoff flyout in the bottom of the sixth, back-to-back singles put runners on first and second. Matthew Schultz drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Following a flyout, Blick drove in his fourth runs of the game to give the Blue Raiders a 5-4 lead. Phipps retired the Tigers in order for the complete-game victory.

Phipps allowed four runs on seven hits while walking four and recording four strikeouts in the victory.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 9 No. 17 Georgetown 5 (9 Innings)

In game two, Georgetown scored a run in the second, third and fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson responded in the bottom of the fourth tying the game. Blick reached on a one-out single and scored on a double from Paulino. Jaden Cockerel made it 3-2 when he drove in Paulino. Rayno tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI-single into left field.

Georgetown took a 4-3 lead in the seventh on a Hank Schineller single to center field. Lindsey Wilson took control of the game in the bottom of the seventh scoring five runs. Gage gave the Blue Raiders a 6-4 lead after a three-RBI triple.

Blick then hit a two-run home run to give Lindsey Wilson an 8-4 advantage. Lindsey Wilson added a run in the eighth while Georgetown scored once in the ninth as the Blue Raiders got the 9-5 victory.

Mason Malone earned the win pitching seven inning allowing four runs on eight hits while walking three striking out three. Gannon Herring pitched two inning of relief  allowing one run on two hits with one walk and striking out two.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on March 17 when they travel to Pikeville (Ky.) for game one of a three-game MSC series.
