Baseball Splits MSC Doubleheader with Bulldogs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CINCINNATI, Ohio. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team spilt a pair with Mid-South Conference foe, Wilberforce (Ohio) at the Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy on Sunday. The Bulldogs earned a come-from-behind 11-10 victory in game one and the Blue Raiders responded with a dominant 12-1 win in game two

Game One | Lindsey Wilson 10, Wilberforce 11 (7 innings)

Lindsey Wilson built a 10-7 lead heading into the bottom half of the seven inning and the Blue Raiders were one out away from sealing the deal after a pair of strikeouts. Two walks, two singles and a hit-by-pitch were enough to bring four runs across and give Wilberforce the 11-10 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

Down 1-0 in the third inning, the Blue Raiders put together solid back-to-back innings to gain a 7-1 lead. Austin Rayno got things started in the third inning with an RBI-single to score Chance Stayton. Trent Floden followed that up with a two-run double and a fielder's choice added one more run.

Floden came up clutch once again in the next inning, hitting a two-run single to score Thorne Gray and Jordan Blick. The Blue Raiders added one more run in the inning off a Michael Sizemore RBI sac-fly to score Cody Fallon.

Through the next two innings the Bulldogs put up six runs to tie the game up at seven, but the Blue Raiders responded once again.

Stayton hit a two-run single in the sixth inning and Blick hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.

On the mound, three Blue Raider pitchers combined for ten strikeouts.

Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 12, Wilberforce 1 (7 innings)

After falling in game one, Lindsey Wilson looked to rebound with a solid performance in the second match up. Both teams were held scoreless through four innings, but the difference came in the sixth, as the Blue Raiders put eleven runs on the board in that frame.

The first run came across in the fifth inning, as Stayton hit an RBI sac-fly to score Matthew Schultz.

Then came the barrage of runs in the sixth inning.

Schultz got things started with a two-run single to score Fallon and Koby Wall. After Stayton reached on an error to plate Sizemore, Blick hit a two-run home run to empty the bases and give the Blue Raiders a 6-0 advantage.

Lindsey Wilson did not stop there as more base runners got on and a Wall single scored Henry Paulino. With the bases loaded, Sizemore earned a walk to bring in Rayno to make the score 8-0.

A Schultz two-run single, a Stayton RBI-single, and a run scored on a passed ball put the Blue Raiders up 12-0.

Wilberforce earned its only run of the game off a solo home run in the sixth inning.

The solo home run was also the only hit allowed by starter Jonathan Phipps who earned his third win of the season. Phipps totaled eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.

Gabriel Alvarez faced the final four batters, striking out the first three and forcing a pop-up to record the final out.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the diamond on March 7, for a non-conference matchup on the road against Midway. First pitch at Tracy Farmer-Don Ball Stadium is set for 1 p.m. CT.
