Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped a Mid-South Conference doubleheader to Cumberland Saturday at Egnew Park 8-4 and 10-4.
The Blue Raiders (16-22, 8-14 MSC) hit three home runs in the first game. Chance Stayton, Henry Paulino and Thorne Gray all recorded a solo home run in the first game. Cohen Achen pitched 4-2/3 innings allowing six runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts. With his eight strikeouts, Achen becomes just the sixth pitcher in program history to record 100 strikeouts in a season.
Stayton was the only Lindsey Wilson player to record two hits in game two. Paulino hit a home run while Andres Duran drove in a pair.
Game 1: Cumberland 8 Lindsey Wilson 4 (7 Innings)
Cole Turney got the Phoenix (28-9-1 (17-3 MSC) on the board first with a solo home run in the first inning. Dee Triplett increased the Phoenix lead in the fourth with a solo home run. Santrel Farmer made it 3-0 Cumberland with an RBI-single in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Blue Raiders got on the board with a solo home run.
Cumberland added to its lead in the top of the fifth with three runs to take a 6-1 lead. Gray cut the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run. Juan Moreno drove in a run in the top of the sixth to make it 7-2. Stayton hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. Michael Sizemore scored on a wild pitch to trim the Phoenix lead to 7-4. Chewy Sanders gave the Phoenix an 8-4 lead with an RBI-single in the seventh.
Game 2: Cumberland 10 Lindsey Wilson 4
Drew Dalton began game two with a leadoff home run for Cumberland. The Phoenix added two more runs in the inning to lead 3-0. Cumberland added to its lead in the fourth on a two-RBI double.
The Phoenix added five runs in the fifth inning to jump out in front 10-0. Lindsey Wilson got on the board in the seventh inning on a solo home run from Paulino. Stayton drove in a run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 10-2. The Blue Raiders were able to add two runs in the ninth on a two-RBI single to trim the deficit to 10-4.
