Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team closed out the Mid-South Conference series against Campbellsville with an 8-7 victory to claim the series 2-1.
Henry Paulino led the way for the Blue Raiders (16-14, 8-9 MSC) going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run. Sam Gage drove in a pair of runs while Chance Stayton and Jordan Blick each drove in one. Stayton also recorded two hits in five at-bats.
Jonathan Phipps pitched the complete-game allowing four earned runs on 10 hits while issuing three walks and striking out seven.
Campbellsville got on the board first in the first inning. Following a leadoff strikeout, Noah Amenta singled to center field. Amenta reached second on a balk and went to third on a groundout. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch. Lucas Bault drew a leadoff walk and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Gage tripled down the right field line scoring Bault and tying the game.
Paulino gave the Blue Raiders a 2-1 lead with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second. Alex Castaneda reached on a two-out single in the top of the third then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Amenta tied the game at 2-2 with a double to left field.
Lindsey Wilson retook the lead in the bottom of the third with both of the runs coming in with two outs. Bault was hit by a pitch and then back-to-back fielder's choice made had a runner on first. Back-to-back singles by Stayton and Blick gave the Blue Raiders a 3-2 lead. Paulino then drove in Stayton to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-2.
Campbellsville went back in front in the top of the fifth. Following back-to-back fly outs, two consecutive hits put runners on second and third. The Blue Raiders lead was cut to 4-3 on a balk. Jorge Gonzalez gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead with a 2-RBI double to center field.
Lindsey Wilson responded in the bottom of the fifth tying the game. Matthew Schultz drew a leadoff walk then Gage reached on a fielder's choice. Following a flyout and hit by pitch, Paulino drove in Gage to tie the game 5-5.
Jaden Cockerel led off the home half of the sixth with a single. Michael Sizemore then reached on an error which put runners on first and second. Bault reached on a fielder's choice when the Tigers got a force out at third. A walk loaded the bases then Lindsey Wilson took a 6-5 lead on a balk. Gage gave the Blue Raiders a 7-5 lead with a sacrifice fly. Stayton increased the lead to 8-5 with an RBI-single.
Campbellsville had runners on first and second with nobody out in the top of the seventh. The Blue Raiders were then able to get the next three outs to end the Tigers threat.
The Tigers reached on a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth and then an error put runners on first and second. Campbellsville trimmed the Lindsey Wilson lead to 8-6 on a fielder's choice. A second Blue Raider error in the inning allowed another Tiger run to score to make it 8-7. Phipps then got the next two batters out to secure the victory for Lindsey Wilson.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Tuesday when they host Bryan (Tenn.) at Egnew Park at 3 p.m. CT.
