Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped a doubleheder at Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday to close out the three-game series at Five Wells Field. The Blue Raiders fell to the Lions 13-2 and 17-3.
Chance Stayton had a team-leading three hits in the twin bill and Jordan Blick totaled a team-leading two RBIs.
Game One | Lindsey Wilson 2, Freed-Hardeman 13 (Seven Innings)
Freed-Hardeman started off strong building a 5-0 lead early. After the Blue Raiders cut the deficit to three runs in the top of the fourth inning, the Lions pulled away, scoring a combined eight runs in the next two innings to put the game seemingly out of reach.
Lindsey Wilson used the long ball to score its only runs of the contest. Stayton started things off with a leadoff double and Blick blasted his second home run of the weekend over the right field wall to make the score 5-2.
Bailey Turner was solid on the mound in relief, retiring five of the six batters he faced.
Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 3, Freed-Hardeman 17 (Seven Innings)
The Blue Raiders jumped ahead first in the second game, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Lions dominated for the rest of the contest, scoring 17 unanswered to earn the run-rule victory.
Trent Floden started the game off with a leadoff single and after advancing to third, Stayton brought him in on an RBI-single. Henry Paulino followed that up with an RBI-single to score Stayton for the second run and Blick scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
The Lions responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and loaded the bases in the second inning with one out. A huge 6-4-3 double-play stalled the momentum for the Lions and kept the game tied.
The Blue Raiders had a chance to break the tie in the next inning, but ultimately left the bases loaded.
Jonathan Phipps recorded four strikeouts on the mound in three innings pitched.
Lindsey Wilson will await its opponent for the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament which starts next weekend.
