Baseball Falls in MSC Opening Round to Freed-Hardeman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to third-seeded Freed-Hardeman in the Opening Round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Blue Raiders dropped both contests, 1-0 and 17-0, to close out the 2023 season.

Game one of the doubleheader proved to be a pitcher's duel with both teams combining for eight hits and only one run. The Lions struck early and often in game two, earning the run-rule victory in seven innings.

Game One | Lindsey Wilson 0, Freed-Hardeman 1

The first game came down to the wire as the Blue Raiders, down by one, had opportunities with runners in scoring position in the final two innings.

Matthew Schultz earned a leadoff-single in the eighth inning and advanced to second after a sac-bunt. A successful pick-off attempt ultimately ended the inning for the Blue Raiders keeping the Lions ahead.

Trent Floden followed that up with a leadoff-double to start the ninth inning and advanced to third after a sac-bunt. An unsuccessful steal attempt and a strikeout ended the game, giving the Lions the victory.

Michael Sizemore earned the only other hit of the contest for the Blue Raiders.

Freed-Hardeman scored its only run of the game in the first inning.

Cohen Achen was solid on the mound for the Blue Raiders, limiting the powerful Lion offense to the lone run on five hits and one walk. Achen recorded ten strikeouts in his eight innings of work. The ten strikeouts by Achen now gives him 110 on the season, the fourth most all-time in a single season in program history.

Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 0, Freed-Hardeman 17 (Seven Innings)

The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and continued to pour it on, cementing the 17-0 victory in seven innings.

Chance Stayton earned the only hit for the Blue Raiders in game two, hitting a single in the fourth inning.

Four Lindsey Wilson pitchers combined for six strikeouts in the contest.

The Blue Raiders wrap up the 2023 season with a 17-27 overall record and a 9-18 mark in the Mid-South Conference.
