Box Score Cleveland, Georgia - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell big in its visit to Truett-McConnell University (Ga.) this afternoon as they were not able to contain the hot streaking Bears who downed the Blue Raiders 17-6.
Chance Stayton and Henry Paulino both went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Lucas Bault recorded a hit along with two RBIs, two walks, and a scoring run, as Jaden Cockerel and Austin Rayno were responsible for the other two RBIs for LWC.
Edwin Quedeza started on the hill for Lindsey Wilson and pitched four innings for 89 pitches with 48 strikes on 24 batters faced. Quedeza recorded four strikeouts and allowed six hits total. Nick Backstrom was credited with the loss after facing four batters on 15 pitches and 7 strikes, while allowing three hits and four earned runs.
Stayton got the bat firing early in the first with an RBI single to center field to score Lucas Bault and take the 1-0 lead. Paulino followed Stayton's footsteps and brought in Sam Gage on an RBI single as well. The Bears then responded with three runs on three hits in their time at bat to retake the lead, 3-2.
After a Truett-McConnell RBI double in the second inning that extended their lead, Jaden Cockerel answered with one of his own in the third to score Stayton. The Blue Raiders knotted the score at four apiece after Rayno took a walk with loaded bases. Bault then knocked one into right field for the two RBI single to regain the lead heading into the fourth inning.
The Bears took over this matchup after tying the ball game at six in the fourth inning with a two RBI home run from Mikal Mascarello. In the fifth, the Bears scored 11 runs on three different Blue Raider pitchers which ultimately led to being too much for LWC as they run-ruled the Blue Raiders in seven innings.
Lindsey Wilson's overall record dropped to 16-16 as they hit the road this weekend for a 3-game series with Bethel University (Tenn.) at 3 p.m. CT.
