WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team dropped its Mid-South Conference bout with seventh-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday evening at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.
The Patriots took firm control the dual behind a stretch of three straight wins, but the Blue Raiders staged a comeback with victories in four of the last five bouts before ultimately falling short, 28-21.
Clarence Lee Green IV opened the evening for Lindsey Wilson at 125, defeating seventh-ranked Austin Franco by a 9-4 decision. After the hosts found the scoreboard at 133,
Adrian Ayala came right back for the Blue Raiders with a 16-5 major decision at 141 to put the visitors ahead 7-6.
Cumberlands pieced together the difference-making run from that point, outscoring Lindsey Wilson 17-0.
At 174,
Cory Cannan put the Blue Raiders back on track and defeated Charlie Friedenreich by a 4-2 decision, but the Patriots swiftly countered with a technical fall in the next bout to extend their lead to 28-10.
Following a forfeit win at 197 for Lindsey Wilson,
Carlos Figueroa secured the Blue Raiders' final five team points behind a dominating 15-0 technical fall.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the mats on January 19 and 20 in Marshall, Missouri for the Missouri Valley Invitational.
