Softball Travels to Alabama for Gulf Coast Invitational

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson softball team will be traveling to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Blue Raiders will be facing University of Houston - Victoria, Central Methodist University (Mo.), Central Baptist College (Ark.), and Southeastern University (Fla.).

The Blue Raiders are currently 3-3, coming off a sweep against Union College last Friday. Elizabeth Funk has recorded seven hits so far this season with a batting average of .688. Four of her hits have led to extra bases. Natalie Wandrie has had five hits in 14 at bats, recording one home run and two hits leading to extra bases with a batting average of .714. Freshman Kayden Murray has made three appearances as pitcher for the Blue Raiders, tabbing her first win of the season in her perfect game against Union. 

Lindsey Wilson will first face the University of Houston - Victoria, who are currently 7-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Senior Kaylle Lopez has recorded a .538 batting average, with 14 hits in 26 at bats, and six of the hits resulting in extra bases. Senior Claire Blinka has also recorded 14 in 28 attempts at bat, with a batting average of .500. Three of Blink's hits have earned extra bases and she has also hit one home run. Senior Cameron Cowen has started four games for the Jaguars, and has recorded five wins so far this season, pitching 26.1 innings. 

Central Methodist is 9-2 overall so far this season, coming off a 15-3 win against Johnson (Tenn.) last weekend. Sophomore Kaysie Jolley has a batting average of .395, recording 15 hits, three earning extra bases and four being home runs as well as recording 11 runs batted in. Sophomore Elizabeth Palumbo has tallied 14 hits for the Eagles, three of them earning extra bases and had eight runs batted in with a batting average of .368. Sophomore Jordyn Ball has started in six games at pitcher for the Eagles and has recorded five wins, pitching 35.2 innings. 

Central Baptist College is 7-7 so far this season, coming off losses to Letourneau and East Texas Baptist University on Monday. Junior Jordyn Frederic has recorded 22 hits with four leading to extra bases and one being a home run. Senior Ysabella Esquivel follows closely behind with 21 hits, five of them resulting in extra bases for the Mustangs. Alex Jeter and Hannah Work have both started seven games as pitcher, and have each recorded three wins apiece. 

No. 22 Southeastern University is 9-5 so far after splitting a series against University of British Columbia this past weekend. Ella Brooks has tallied 19 hits for the Fire, with two resulting in extra bases. Chapel Cunningham has recorded 20 hits and has had four runs batted in with a batting average of .404. Claire Sekinger has started six games as the pitcher for the Fire, and has recorded three wins so far this season. 

The Blue Raiders will play at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. CST on both Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores.
