COLUMBIA, Ky. – Day two of battle between the Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville softball teams panned out in a similar fashion to day one, with yet another split.
The visiting Tigers got the early edge with a win in game one, but an offense charge by the Blue Raiders in game two ultimately sealed the draw.
Tanlee Hudgins paced the home side with three hits on the day, all in the second game, while
Kelsie Bostock,
Natalie Shaw, and
Brylee Pickerell each contributed two hits for a Lindsey Wilson offense that, again, outhit Campbellsville 13-12.
Game One: Lindsey Wilson 0, (RV) Campbellsville 1
Campbellsville needed only one run to clinch the victory in Sunday's opener. A solo home run in the fourth inning did the trick.
Prior to that moment,
Kayden Murray had carried a perfect game through three innings but still stuck around to fire her seventh complete-game of the year. The freshman finished with five strikeouts to bring her season total to a conference-leading 67.
The Blue Raiders tallied hits from four different players in the game, including a team-leading 11th double by
Elizabeth Funk in the sixth inning. Even with the late threat, however, the Tigers' one-run lead stood its ground and held to the end.
Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 7, (RV) Campbellsville 3
After game one saw one run on eight hits, the second edition of Sunday's twin bill featured 10 runs on 17 hits.
The first of those hits came from Campbellsville in the second inning and helped the Tigers to a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the frame, Lindsey Wilson hit back. Consecutive base-hits by Hudgins and Bostock, followed by a walk to
Kayley Bruener quickly juiced the bases for Shaw who delivered a hard-hit, infield-single to plate Bostock. The next at-bat,
Brooklynn Becker laid down a another infield-hit to score Hudgins, then Pickerell stepped up an cleared the bags with a three-run, RBI-double.
In front for the first time of the day, the Blue Raiders limited Campbellsville to one more run before tacking on some insurance in the sixth.
Bostock and Hudgins got the ball rolling with back-to-back doubles to extend the lead to 6-3, then
Madyson Jones chimed in on a double of her own to bump the advantage to 7-3.
As the Lindsey Wilson offense was putting in work at the plate, so were
Savannah Robbins and
Abigail Cruz in the circle. The duo each pitched three complete innings with Robbins collecting the win and Cruz recording the save.
The Blue Raiders are slated to continue their short homestand at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 against Bryan (Tenn.).
