LEBANON, Tenn. - The Lindsey Wilson softball team concluded their four game series against Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday, splitting the series.
Game 1 | Lindsey Wilson 3, Cumberland 4
The first game of the day was a close battle between the Blue Raiders and the Phoenix, with the game going into extra innings giving Cumberland the opportunity to take the win. Lindsey Wilson got the scoring started early with a home run in the first inning by Elizabeth Funk. The home run out to center field allowed both Funk and Tanlee Hudgins to score, giving the Blue Raiders an early 2-0 lead. Cumberland responded in the second inning with a home run of their own which brought in three runs to give them the lead. In the third inning, Brylee Pickerell hit a sacrifice fly out to right field, allowing Brooklynn Becker to run home, evening the score at three. Pitching this game was Savannah Robbins, who had three runs on four hits and Grace Adams who allowed one run on eighth hits to close out the game. The Blue Raiders ultimately fell in the bottom of the eighth inning when Cumberland brought in the winning run off a double to center field.
Game 2 | Lindsey Wilson 8, Cumberland 3
Lindsey Wilson made a commanding effort in game two, taking the win against Cumberland. Pickerell scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a throwing error by the shortstop, followed by Madyson Jones bringing in the second run off a sacrifice fly by Elizabeth Funk. Cumberland responded with a three run home run in the first, but the Blue Raiders took the lead again in the fourth inning with a run by Olivia Franceschi off a double up the middle by Kendall Dailey. The lead advanced by three in the fifth inning, beginning with a home run by Jones followed by a single by Franceschi that brought McKenna Ingram to home plate. Aimee Flynn rounded off the runs for the inning when she scored off a sacrifice fly by Kayley Bruener. The final run of the game was scored by Franceschi off an error by first base In the circle this game was Kayden Murray, who had three runs on 10 hits and recorded 10 strikeouts.
The Blue Raiders will play at home on Tuesday, April 4 against Brescia. The doubleheader is set to begin at 4 p.m. CST at Marilyn D. Sparks Park and will be broadcasted live on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.
