COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team's Mid-South Conference schedule concludes this weekend in Williamsburg as the Blue Raiders visit defending conference tournament champions and No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.).
Undefeated in league play so far this season, the Patriots enter the weekend in the midst of a 23-game winning streak. During this span, they are outhitting opponents .358 to .212 and outscoring teams by an average of 6.5 runs.
The tandem of Jade and Amber Gainer have paced Cumberlands through its winning tear. The latter of the two is batting .397 with 27 hits, six doubles, four home runs, and 18 runs batted-in, while Jade is hitting .480 with 36 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, a home run, and 22 runs batted-in. Together, they are also 26-for-28 on stolen bases.
As a team, the Patriots boast the conference's best batting average -- .342 -- and earned run average – 1.76. Senior Talli Burgess is largely responsible for her team's success in the circle. The NAIA All-American is 8-0 against Mid-South opponents and sports a 0.18 earned run average in nine conference appearances. She is a two-time Mid-South Pitcher of the Week this season, which is second-most to Lindsey Wilson's
Kayden Murray. In fact, Burgess and Murray make up four of the last five conference Pitchers of the Week.
Murray actively ranks first in the league for total strikeouts at 158 and is coming off a pair of victories at Rio Grande (Ohio) earlier this week, including a career-best 14 strikeouts in game one against the Red Storm. She and Burgess are knotted for the conference lead in total wins with 13 apiece and are the only two pitchers to rank inside the top five for earned run average, wins, and strikeouts.
Offensively, the Blue Raiders have seen a recent surge from
Olivia Franceschi. The junior is batting a team-high .393 since March 30, contributing 11 hits, four doubles, a home run, and four runs batted-in. Teammate
Brylee Pickerell is pushing .400 over her last four outings and currently leads the team with five home runs.
Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands last met on March 2, 2022 in Columbia for a two-game set. The two sides split that doubleheader.
This weekend's series opens with a twin bill at 2 p.m. CST on Friday, April 19, then continues with another pair of games at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, April 20.
Live coverage of all four games will be provided by the Cumberlands Sports Network.
