MOBILE, Ala. – The third-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 14 seed Dillard (La.) 4-1 Wednesday in the second round of the NAIA national tournament Tuesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Anastasiia Ivanchenko and
Martina Cortal defeated Daria Schoma and Brunella Gomez (No. 47 ranked doubles in NAIA) 6-1 on court three. Lindsey Wilson clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory from
Mariangeles Mateu and
Heyka Rodriguez (No. 28) at No. 2 doubles.
Rodriguez (No. 39 in NAIA) gave the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Schoma at No. 6 singles. Dillard's lone point of the match came at No. 2 singles where Rocia Brisa defeated Mateu 6-4, 6-4.
Darija Mladenovic (No. 68) got Lindsey Wilson within a point of clinching with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Gomez at No. 4 singles. Ivanchenko (No. 35) clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yui Suzuki on court five.
The Blue Raiders advance to Thursday's quarterfinals where they will face No. 6 seed Tennessee Wesleyan at 1 p.m. CT.
