BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team's postseason run came to an emotional end on Saturday afternoon at Bowling Green High School as the Blue Raiders bowed out to No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) 6-2.
Trailing 4-0 after three innings, Lindsey Wilson made some noise following a lengthy weather delay to trim into the Patriots' lead, but the top-seed did just enough on defense down the stretch to hold on for the win.
Six different Blue Raiders contributed hits, including
Melaina Tucker with a team-high two hits for her third multi-hit game of the year.
Cumberlands opened the scoring early in the bottom half of the first inning with three runs on three hits, then added a fourth run in the third frame on a solo home run.
After a 90-minute lightning delay with one out in the top of the fourth inning,
Elizabeth Funk continued her at-bat and rocketed her fourth home run of the season to center field to plate herself and
Brylee Pickerell and cut the deficit in half.
Despite Lindsey Wilson threatening later in the sixth, the Blue Raiders were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Kayden Murray (18-7) fired her 21st complete game of the season, going 6.0 innings and allowing six earned runs on nine hits.
The softball team concludes its 2024 season with a 25-24 overall record, increasing its win total from a season ago by five wins and earning two more playoff victories than in 2023.
