Shelton Grabs Programs' First Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week Honor

COLUMBIA, Ky.- Lindsey Wilson student-athlete Saniyah Shelton garners the first women's basketball program's Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week Honor.

The 5'10 Sophomore out of Central City, Kentucky, led the Blue Raider defense in three straight victories, including a 77-65 upset of previously No.15-ranked Oregon Tech on Nov.24, posting a stat line of six rebounds, four points, two assists, and one steal. Shelton tallied 21 points, seven boards, five assists, and four steals while shooting 5-of-5 from the charity stripe in an 83-53 win over Pikeville Friday. Although shots weren't falling on Saturday against Virginia Lynchburg, Shelton racked up eight rebounds, seven assists, one block, and one steal in the 92-54 upending.

On the week, Shelton averaged 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 100 percent from the free-throw line.

This season, Shelton averages 9.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest while shooting 70.4 percent from the charity stripe and 36.1 percent from the field.

Women's hoops will be back in action on Friday to face Indiana University East at 6 P.M. CT inside Biggers Sports Center.
