Softball Defeated in Home Opener by Northwestern Ohio

COLUMBA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team was defeated by Northwestern Ohio Tuesday 3-1 in the home opener at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

Kayden Murray pitched a complete game allowing three runs on four hits while matching a career-high in strikeouts with 14. Murray recorded multiple strikeouts in five of the seven innings. Natalie Wandrie led the Blue Raider (1-5) offense with a pair of hits while Brylee Pickerell drove in the lone run.

Murray began the game by striking out five of the first six batters she faced and struck out the side in the first. The Blue Raiders struck first in the second inning. Wandrie led off the inning with a double to left field. Kaiden Rogers reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt which moved Wandrie to third. Pickerell then drove in the run on a fielder's choice, giving Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 advantage.

Northwestern Ohio (1-2) answered in the top of the third inning to tie the game. The Racers began the inning with a leadoff double to left from Cecillia Campbell. Campbell advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single from Sydney Shaffer to tie the game.

The Racers took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run with two outs from Hallie Edgell. Following back-to-back outs to begin the bottom of the fifth, Kendall Dailey had a pinch-hit single to center and Sam Hartman drew a walk. The Racers brought in Kiya Benschoter to face Wandrie. Wandrie hit the ball to the third baseman who stepped on the bag ending the Blue Raider threat. Lindsey Wilson got one hit over the final two innings and was retired in order in the seventh to end the game.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Union (Ky.) beginning at 2 p.m. CT in Barbourville, Kentucky.
