Men’s Wrestling Goes 2-2 at Hawk Duals

Montgomery, Ala. – The No. 22-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team went 2-2 at the Hawk Duals on Saturday at Garrett Coliseum.

The Blue Raiders picked up victories over (RV) Truett McConnell (Ga.) and McMurry (Texas) and fell to No. 23 Reinhardt (Ga.) and Life NWCA (Ga.).

Lindsey Wilson 12 Reinhardt 30
The Blue Raiders were defeated by No. 23 Reinhardt (Ga.) 30-12. Alex Tabor defeated Leland Camp (No. 18 at 133 pounds) in a 19-9 major decision, cutting the Blue Raider deficit to 6-4. The Eagles won the next two weight classes, taking a 14-4 lead.  Emmanuel Celestine (No. 22 in NAIA at 157 pounds)  defeated Joabe Araujo with a 4-3 decision, trimming the Reinhardt lead to 14-7. Reinhardt earned a pair of decisions at 165 and 174 pounds to increase its lead to 20-7. Cory Cannan (No. 12 at 184 pounds) earned a 20-3 tech fall over Jonathon Paramore 20-3 by tech fall to make it 20-12. Reinhardt won the final two weight classes for the 30-12 win.

The Blue Raiders opened the dual, picking up wins in the first three weight classes. Jorge Bravo earned an SV-1 7-4 victoryover Tyler Ramos at 125 pounds. Arlo Laxton made it 6-0 with a 4-2 decision over Stanley Lal at 133 pounds. Wyatt Davis pinned Caleb Benton in the final minute of the first period at 141 pounds, increasing the Blue Raider lead to 12-0. Truett McConnell picked up its first victory at 149 pounds with an 8-6 decision. 

Brandon Irigoyen earned an SV-1 12-9 victory over Chase Bond at 157 pounds. The Bears trimmed the Lindsey Wilson lead to 15-9 with a pin at 165 pounds. Lindsey Wilson then recorded three-straight pins to take control of the dual.  Kriecg Roe pinned Chi Anderson in the final minute of the first period at 174 pounds. Cannan pinned Tyler Chow at 184 pounds. Jostyn Cardenas-Zayas pinned Spencer Fields in the final minute of the first period at 197 pounds. Truett McConnell closed the dual with a win at 285 pounds.

Lindsey Wilson earned five forfeit victories and five pins in the dual. Mason Nelson earned a pin over Aaron Michaels in 54 seconds at 125 pounds. Evan McGhee pinned Major Watz in the first period at 149 pounds. Nicholas Hejke pinned Ruben Perez in 50 seconds at 184 pounds. Roe pinned Thomas Olivarez in 1:07 at 197 pounds, while Zackery Chatman closed the dual with a pin of Skylar Sedlacek at 285 pounds.

Lindsey Wilson 25 Life NWCA 18
Lindsey Wilson was defeated by Life University NCWA, 25-18. Colin Noel opened the dual with a 9-0 major decision giving Lindsey Wilson a 4-0 lead. The Running Eagles then won the next six weight classes to take a 25-4 lead. Canaan, Cardenas-Zayas, and Chatman closed out the dual with victories.

The Blue Raiders return to the mat on Sunday for the Hawk Open.
