Perez Captures Title at Cumberland Open

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team competed at the Cumberland Open on Sunday, and Miguel Perez captured an individual title.

Miguel Perez captured the title at 285 pounds. Perez opened his tournament with back-to-back pins over Rio Grande's Braeden Buxton and Cumberland's Noah Todd. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Liberty's Wade Wheeler. Perez punched his ticket to the finals with a 5-0 decision over Cumberlands' Trey White. He won the title after Rio Grande's Bruce Wagers (No. 16 at 285) medically forfeited.
 
Kriceg Roe finished third at 174 pounds. Roe opened his tournament with a 2-0 decision over Cumberlands' Andrew Allen and pinned Huntingdon's Thomas Seglio in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he was defeated 22-4 by Life's Konlin Weaver (No. 6 at 184). Roe pinned Ethan Frank of Wayland Baptist in the consolation semifinals. He finished third after an injury default from Oklahoma City's Alex Wilson.
 
Nathan Payton reached the consolation semifinals at 149 pounds. Payton dropped a 7-2 decision in his first match to Brock Gross of Huntingdon. He then pinned Lyon's Clauy Queen Jr. in his first consolation match. Payton then picked up a 15-0 tech fall over Huntingdon's Casen Guidry. He picked up a 7-6 decision over Liberty's Justin Root and advanced to the consolation semifinals with a pin of William Hardin. Payton was defeated by Cumberland's Wyatt Howard 7-0.
 
Jaiden Moore reached the consolation semifinals in the 165-pound bracket. Moore dropped his first match to Cumberland's Logan Brown 11-9. He pinned Cumberland's Jacob Barlow in his first consolation match. Moore then pinned Liberty's Josiah Foss and earned an SV-1 9-6 victory over Cumberlands' Brodie Johnson. He pinned Cameron Isabel of Cumberland before falling to Cumberlands' Jack Willen in the consolation semifinals.
 
Cale Johnson made the consolation semifinals at 184 pounds. Johnson opened his tournament with an 18-1 tech fall over Lyon's Daniel Tackett before falling 21-4 to Cumberland's Rocco Horvath (No. 10 at 184). He earned a 21-4 tech fall over Brewton-Parker's Thomas Crawford before falling to Cumberland's Logan Heckert.

The Blue Raiders close out their regular season on Tuesday for a Mid-South Conference dual at Campbellsville at 6 p.m. CT
