COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 10 Marian (Ind.) 6-1 on Monday at The Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders improve to 9-1 on the season, having won their last six matches.
Mayra Gisone and
Martina Cortal defeated Michelle Irigoyen and Jimena Rivera 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Heyka Rodriguez and
Javiera Verdugo earned the doubles point for the Blue Raiders with a 6-4 victory over Yasmin Imamniyazova and Ana Lopez in the top-seeded doubles match.
Mariangeles Mateu increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Irigoyen at No. 3 singles. Gisone defeated Imamniyazova at No. 1 singles giving Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 advantage. Gisone dropped the first set 7-5 before winning the next two 6-2, 6-1. Verdugo clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rivera at No. 4 singles.
Marian's lone win came at No. 2 singles, with Lopez defeating Cortal 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Blanca Trillo Pita da Veiga earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Liliane Alinquant at No. 5 singles.
Hang Nguyen won 6-2, 6-1 over Paloma Caceres at No. 6.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday, hosting No. 22 Cumberland (Tenn.) at 2 p.m. CT in a Mid-South Conference matchup at The Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
