COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 19 Cumberland (Tenn.) 6-1 on Saturday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders improve to 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Lindsey Wilson has now won its last seven matches.
Mariangeles Mateu and
Blanca Trillo Pita da Veiga defeated Asya Tilsim Timur and Madeleine Darud 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Mayra Gisone and
Martina Cortal clinched the doubles point for the Blue Raiders with a 6-4 victory over Maria Arbelaez and Elina Sungatullina at No. 2 doubles. Heyka Rodríguez and
Javiera Verdugo won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Cortal increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Valentina Mendez at No. 2 singles. Gisone defeated Timur 6-3, 6-4 in the top-seeded singles match, pushing the Blue Raider lead to 3-0. Cumberland's lone win came at No. 3 singles with Arbelaez defeating Mateu 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Trillo clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Darud at No. 5 singles. Verdugo and Rodriguez earned victories at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Monday, hosting No. 12 Cumberlands (Ky.) at 1 p.m. CT in a top-15 matchup at The Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
