Raul Safont has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Safont, of Castelló de la Plana, Spain earns his first-career weekly honor after going 2-0 in both singles and doubles in a pair of victories over No. 15 Marian (Ind.) and No. 24 Cumberland (Tenn.). Against Marian, he defeated Marcos Ramos Cabrera 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. In doubles, he and
Aldo Randazzo defeated Marc Soriano and Iyan Cresens 6-3 at No. 3.
He then defeated Cumberland's Mohamed Bouhlel 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Safont and Randazzo recorded their second win of the weekend with a 6-3 victory over Arne Sohmer and Arthur Fernandes in the third-seeded doubles match.
Safont and the Blue Raiders return to action on Monday, hosting No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) at 2 p.m. CT at The Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
