Raul Safont was named the NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, national officials announced on Tuesday.
Safont of Castelló de la Plana, Spain, earns the first national weekly honor of his career after being named the Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday.
He went 2-0 in both singles and doubles against ranked competition. Against No. 15 Marian (Ind.), Safont defeated Marcos Ramos Cabrera 6-2, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. In doubles, he and
Aldo Randazzo earned a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Against No. 24 Cumberland (Tenn.), Safont defeated Mohamed Bouhlel 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4. Safont and Randazzo earned their second victory with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Arne Sohmer and Arthur Fernandes.
Safont and the Blue Raiders return to action on Thursday, taking on No. 7 Xavier (La.) in Memphis, Tennessee.
