COLUMBIA, Ky. - Blue Raider softball sophomore
Emerson McKinnis is the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
The Auburn, Kentucky native garners her first career weekly honor from the Mid-South following an efficient showing at the plate last week for No. 16 Lindsey Wilson.
In Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of Union Commonwealth (Ky.), McKinnis hit 4-for-5 as the designated player. She drove in three runs on three hits in game one, including a double, then added a hit and a run scored in game two.
During the Blue Raiders' weekend series against Georgetown (Ky.), McKinnis recorded multiple hits in games one and two, and added her 10th hit of the week in game three as Lindsey Wilson swept the Tigers. She finished the series 6-for-9 at the dish with two RBIs and two runs scored, as well as 22 putouts from her catcher position.
All told, McKinnis batted 0.625, including 5-for-5 with two outs and 6-for-8 with runners in scoring position. In 17 plate appearances, she reached base 12 times.
McKinnis ranks fourth in the conference for hits and third for runs scored and on-base percentage.
Emerson and her Blue Raider teammates host Indiana Southeast at 3 and 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 31.
