Lindsey Wilson Runs Winning Streak to Six; Beats Trevecca Nazarene 2-1

Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team upset No. 20-ranked and third-seeded Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 2-1 today in the opening round of the NAIA Region XI Softball Tournament at Fesmire Field on the campus of Union University.

The sixth-seeded Blue Raiders (22-25) needed extra innings to beat the TranSouth Conference regular season champions, scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 2-1.

The win is Lindsey Wilson's season-high sixth in a row. The Blue Raiders won five consecutive games in the Mid-South Conference Tournament for their second straight MSC Tournament title last week.
Trevecca sophomore Jennifer Perkins drove in the game's first run with an RBI single scoring freshman Jessica Leary in the top of the sixth inning to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson senior pitcher LeighAnn Collins came in to relieve sophomore starter Kasey LaDuke follwing the Perkins' hit. LaDuke allowed just the one run on seven hits in five and one-thirds innings of work.

Collins entered the game with bases loaded and ended the Trevecca rally. She struck out senior Holly Hatcher and forced junior Jodi Reimer into an inning-ending ground out.

Lindsey Wilson senior catcher Amy Rice, who earned all-region eariler in the day for her efforts during the season, tied the game on the first pitch of the bottom of the sixth inning. The home run was Rice's first of the season and her 19th of her career. Rice went three for four in the game.

The game remained tied until the bottom eighth inning when the Blue Raiders loaded the bases. Freshman outfielder Kim Guy ended the game with a RBI single to give Lindsey Wilson the 2-1 win.

Collins (5-4) picked up the win, going two and two-thirds innings of relief. She did not allow a run and held Trevecca hitless.

Trevecca senior pitcher Hollie Shane suffered the loss as she went the distance, allowing two runs and nine Lindsey Wilson hits.

The Blue Raiders advance to tonight's semifinals of the winner's bracket where they will meet Union University at 6 p.m. CT.

Trevecca falls into the loser's bracket and will play on Thursday.
