Box Score 2 CAMPBELLVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team's six-game winning streak came to a halt today with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
The Blue Raiders (9-9, 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference) dropped the opener 6-5 in 10 innings and fell 7-5 in the nightcap.
In game one, Lindsey Wilson overcame a 3-1 deficit to tie the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Senior catcher Whitney Mink's two-run home run fueled the comeback as the Blue Raiders tied the game at 3-3.
Following a scoreless seventh inning, Lindsey Wilson senior Deanndria Moore scored on to give the Blue Raiders a 4-3 lead. The Lady Tigers (12-4, 5-1) tied the game in the bottom half of the eighth to extend the game.
Lindsey Wilson once again grabbed a one-run lead in the top of the ninth as Moore tripled home freshman right fielder Megan Huckaby. But a pair of doubles by Campbellsville's Dana Price and Katie Daniel tied the game at 5-5.
Starting the 10th inning, the International Tie-Breaker Rule -- placing a runner on second base to start the inning -- was utilized. The Blue Raiders failed to score in the top of the inning leaving the door open for the Lady Tigers.
Campbellsville took advantage of the opening scoring on a ground out to second base to win 6-5.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Olivia Holland (3-5) suffered the loss allowing six runs -- two earned -- on 11 hits in 9-2/3 innings of work. She struck out six Campbellsville Lady Tigers while issuing four walks.
In game two, Campbellsville scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead. But Lindsey Wilson refused to go away scoring in each of the next three innings before falling 7-5.
Sophomore Jamie Williams and freshman Lindsey Bridges each led off the latter innings with home runs to cut into the Campbellsville lead. Williams added a two-run double in the seventh but it wasn't enough for the Blue Raiders en route to the loss.
Williams finished the game with three hits and four runs batted in. Sophomore pitcher Emillee Bush (4-2) suffered the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in four innings of work.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 12, as the Blue Raiders host St. Catharine (Ky.) College at Joe Johnson Field.
