Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team won their second straight with a 3-1 win today over visiting Union (Ky.) College at Joe Johnson Field.
Lindsey Wilson senior Whitney Mink provided the biggest hit of the game -- a two-run blast over the left field fence -- and sophomore pitchers Olivia Holland and Emillee Bush combined to shut down the Union bats en route to the win.
Mink connected on her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the first inning to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead. Mink finished the game with two hits, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Union cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth following back-to-back doubles by junior Sarah Driver and sophomore Ashley Tatman.
The Union run proved to be the only run Holland (5-7) allowed in her five innings of work. The Bowling Green, Ky., native, allowed just four hits while striking out one Union hitter.
Lindsey Wilson added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on sophomore Kelly McCarty's two-out RBI single to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead. McCarty ended the game with a pair of hits.
Bush did the rest. The Greensburg, Ky., native earned her second save of the season limiting the Bulldogs to two hits over the final two innings.
Union freshman Abby Sears (6-4) suffered the loss allowing three runs on six hits in the complete-game effort. She struck out two Lindsey Wilson batters while issuing two walks.
Lindsey Wilson senior Brittany Dorsey joined Mink and McCarty with two hits. Driver finished with three hits and scored the lone Union run.
The Blue Raiders were scheduled to face Goshen (Ind.) College at 1:30 p.m. CT today, but the game has been cancelled by Goshen. Lindsey Wilson will apply to the NAIA for a forfeit next week.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 24, as the Blue Raiders travel to University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg.
