Softball Finishes Perfect Weekend with Two Wins against IU Southeast

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team improved to 4-0 overall with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana University Southeast on Sunday at Lindsey Wilson Park. The Blue Raiders shut out the Grenadiers 4-0 in game one and cruised in game two 9-1.

It was another strong day of pitching for Lindsey Wilson as both Anyibell Ramirez and Morgan Paschall picked up complete-game wins for the second day in a row. Ramirez blanked IU Southeast (0-2) on the scoreboard while throwing 11 strikeouts. Paschall allowed just three hits while striking out six batters.

Ramirez led the Blue Raiders at the plate as well, going 3-for-6 with two home runs, two RBI and three runs scored. Shortstop Jamie Williams finished the day 3-for-7 with a home run and three RBI, while Alexis Rodgers held the hot bat in game two, hitting 3-for-4 with a run scored.

It took a while for the Lindsey Wilson offense to pick up in game one as the game went scoreless until the fourth inning. Then Ramirez singled, but was picked off on a base-running error at first base, leaving the bases empty for Williams. The shortstop delivered with a towering blast over the left-field fence to give the Blue Raiders the lead for good.

Lindsey Wilson added another run in the fifth as first baseman Kelly McCarty singled to left to bring center fielder Emily Carnes, who had singled, home from third. Then a two-run shot over the fence by Ramirez in the sixth inning wrapped up the scoring for the Blue Raiders.

Ramirez pitched 7.0 innings, giving up just two hits and walking just one batter.

The damage in game two came in the bottom of the third inning for IU Southeast as Lindsey Wilson tallied seven runs. With the bases loaded, Williams doubled to center to score one run, then catcher Ally Goniea was hit by a pitch, designated player Lindsey Bridges reached on a walk and McCarty doubles to left field to add to the rally.

The scoring continued as third baseman Caren Alexander and pitcher Morgan Paschall both added a double to extend the big inning.

The Grenadiers scored their first run of the day in the fifth inning, but never threatened the Blue Raider lead as Lindsey Wilson added a run in both the fourth and sixth innings. Williams reached on an error in the sixth that allowed Haley Cheuvront to score, giving Lindsey Wilson an eight-run lead to end the game by mercy rule in the sixth.

Paschall limited IU Southeast to just three hits in the game while walking just one batter to go with her six strikeouts.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 5 against the University of Mobile (Ala.) in its first game of the Orange Beach Tournament in Mobile, Ala. The Blue Raiders will play seven games March 5-7 in Mobile.
