Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Morgan Paschall made sure the Lindsey Wilson College softball team had a good start in Mid-South Conference play, picking up a pair of wins against Georgetown (Ky.) College on Tuesday at Lindsey Wilson Park. The Blue Raiders won game one 7-2 and took game two 1-0.
Paschall entered in relied for Anyibell Ramirez in the third inning of game one and pitched 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts, while allowing just four hits and no runs. The Nolensville, Tenn., native followed that performance with a complete-game in game two, allowing just five hits in the shutout win with four strikeouts.
With a 4-for-7 showing at the plate, Paschall also led the Lindsey Wilson offense. The junior delivered the game-winning RBI in game two and tallied three RBI in the opening contest. Catcher Ally Goniea finished the day 3-for-6 after going 3-for 3 in game one with a run, walk and RBI.
After starting the day 0-for-4, left fielder Alexis Rodgers bounced back in game two with a 2-for-3 effort.
Lindsey Wilson (9-4, 2-0 MSC) got off to a rocky start as Ramirez walked the first two batters, followed by an RBI single by Jordan Clemons. Ramirez walked another batter before Laura Hoffman's sacrifice fly drove in another run to push Georgetown (3-11, 0-2 MSC) ahead 2-0 in the first inning.
The Blue Raiders responded with one run in the second and three in the third to take a 4-2 lead on the Tigers. Shortstop Jordan Gilland singled to start the scoring in the second as third baseman Caren Alexander drove her home with a double.
Once Paschall entered for Ramirez in the third, Lindsey Wilson needed no further run support as the junior shutout the Tigers the rest of the way.
Game two remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when Goniea started things off by reaching first on a misplayed ground ball. First baseman Kelly McCarty laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Sunny Bayne -- pinch running for Goniea -- over to second, allowing a double by Paschall to drive in Bayne for the winning run.
Paschall held on to the one-run advantage despite allowing a single to lead off the seventh inning.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, March 12 against West Virginia Tech at Lindsey Wilson Park.
