Carnes, Goniea Go Yard for Softball in Split with St. Catharine

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Emily Carnes and Ally Goniea both hit a home run in game two to lead the Lindsey Wilson College softball team past St. Catharine (Ky.) College 7-1 on Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park. The Patriots edged the Blue Raiders in game one 3-2.

Morgan Paschall earned the win for Lindsey Wilson, throwing 7.0 innings with five strikeouts while allowing just three hits, a walk and no earned runs. Anyibell Ramirez takes the loss in game one after allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work in the circle.

Left fielder Alexis Rodgers crushed the ball, going a combined 4-for-7 in both games with two RBI, two runs scored and three doubles. Carnes finished 2-for-3 in the win with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Designated player Lindsey Bridges also hit 2-for-3 in game two with a run scored.

First baseman Justine Paddock went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Patriots in game one, while left fielder Kasie Prather finished 2-for-3, adding a run for St. Catharine.

Lindsey Wilson committed two errors in the 3-2 loss, while the Patriots registered a clean game in the field. Game two was error heavy with both teams committing three.

St. Catharine jumped ahead 3-0 in game one after adding a pair of runs in the third inning. The Blue Raiders clawed back with a run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but were unable to score the tying run with right fielder Megan Huckaby waiting on third base in the bottom of the seventh.

Game two was a different story for Lindsey Wilson as it jumped in front 6-0 by the end of the fourth inning after the long balls by Carnes and Goniea. St. Catharine scored its only win in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice play to first base with the bases loaded.

Besides the home runs in game two, the Blue Raiders also added extra base hits from shortstop Jamie Williams, Rodgers and Goniea with doubles.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 23 at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University in Nashville, Tenn.
